About Us
Yarns & Fabrications was opened in 2005 by a mother/daughter-in-law pair who loved the beautiful colors and textures in both fabrics and yarns. As life changes, so did our shop. Daughter-in-law moved away (following husband's promotion), and the decision was made to focus on yarns and supplies. We have stocked our shelves with a nice selection of soft, luscious yarns in not only a variety of fibers and colors, but also a wide range of prices, to appeal to each of you. We offer classes for those of you eager to learn this lifelong skill, and friendly help when you need it. Stop by - we appreciate your business!
Joy Murray, is the "mother" of the pair. Joy stays very busy running the shop as well as being a nurse at TriHealth. She is married, has 4 children and 4 grandchildren who she love to knit for. Joy's daughter Clair and sister Gail also work at the shop.
Lori Murray, is the "daughter-in-law" of the pair, has moved away but still works on special projects, the newsletter, and shows. Lori has provided the shop with many original designs, especially felted bags. Stop in to see her fabulous designs. She stays busy in her new home with her husband and two children.
Karen has been with the shop since it's opening. Even though she was mainly involved in the quilting part of the shop for the first 3 years, she has learned to knit and loves working with all of the fibers. Currently, Karen works in the shop, creates class schedules and the newsletter, and coordinates shows. She was born and raised in Cincinnati and lives in the western side of town with her husband.
Brooke has been knitting since 2002 and has worked and taught classes at Y&F since it opened in 2005. Currently, she is our instructor for sock classes and is the much loved leader of the sock club. She enjoys knitting anything that will keep her nieces and nephew warm, and loves to start new sock and toy projects. SHe regularly hosts a Socks Without Parnters support group in her home. You can follow her knitting and designing adventures at http://drunkenmonkeyknits. blogspot.com. She is an Ohio native.
Wendy has been knitting for 33 years. She learned to knit when she was 9 and loves to knit sweaters and socks. "I have never knit a lace shawl, but is is one of my goals". She has worked at the store for 4 years and is the instuctor for many techniques and project classes. Find Wendy at the store on Ladies Nite and you're sure to have a great time. Wendy was born and lived in Indiana for 35 years before moving to Ohio 7 years ago. She also stays busy with her husband and 3 children.
Bethany has worked at the store for 2 1/2 years and has been knitting for about 7 years. She enjoys knitting mittens, toys, and projects with cables. Bethany is able to knit using different techniques including Portuguese and Continental, and changes her style based on what she is making. How great is that! She is from Dover, Ohio and has lived in Cincinnati for almost 3 years.
Tobie has been with Yarns & Fabrications for 2 years, works in the shop, and teaches the Contintental knitting classes. Tobie is also one of our fun gals at Ladies Nite. She likes to try different knitting and crochet projects, but her favoites so far are socks and sweaters. Tobie also enjoys sewing and quilting so she is truly a dedicated fiber person.
Lise love to the USA 3 years ago from England with her husband and 2 children. She re-started knitting about 18 months ago when she started working at Yarns & Fabrications. "I love to try to make different things, including baby clothes, children's clothes, felted purses, hats, socks, and even a hedgehog!". Lise has agreed to teach classes as well as work in the store, so we welcome her to our instuctor roster.
Chris had been one of the shop's loyal customers when she decided to join our staff about a year ago. She learned to knit in one of our classes and now likes to knit a variety of things including socks, scarves, afghans, and is working on her first sweater. Chris was born in Pennsylvania, but has lived in our area for many years with her husband and three children.
Gail is Joy's sister and even though she has helped out in the shop since it opened in 2005, she recently agreed to join us on a regular basis, and we are very happy she did! She learned to knit as a child, but had not knitted in a long time until the shop opened and she got hooked again. Gail said she just learned to knit socks, but her favorite things to knit are for her 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
Clair is Joy's daughter and stays very busy working two full time jobs, one outside the home, and one as a wife and mother of two young girls. Even though Clair is a new knitter, she enjoys working with the yarns, the staff, and the great customers who visit our shop.
